BECKHOFF EK1521
The BECKHOFF module can directly control two motors through the EtherCAT terminal module. It is electrically isolated from E-bus, and the speed is preset by a 16 bit value from the automation unit. The output terminal has anti overload and short circuit protection functions, and both outputs have a common thermal overload alarm. The EtherCAT terminal module has 2 channels, each with an LED to indicate its signal status.

Many applications require changing the I/O configuration during operation. For example, machining centers with changing characteristics, systems equipped with sensors, or intelligent transmission systems, flexible workpiece actuators, or printing machines that can independently shut down printing units. The protocol structure of the EtherCAT system takes into account these requirements: the "hot connection" function can connect or disconnect various parts of the network, or reconfigure them quickly, providing flexible response capabilities to changing configurations.
High availability
The optional cable redundancy can meet the growing demand for improving system availability, allowing for device replacement without shutting down the network. EtherCAT also supports redundant master stations with hot standby function. Due to the EtherCAT slave controller automatically returning frames immediately upon encountering an interrupt, device failure will not cause the entire network to shut down. For example, the cable protection drag chain can be specially configured in the form of a short rod to prevent wire breakage.
Safety over EtherCAT
In order to achieve EtherCAT security related data communication, we * open the Safety over EtherCAT protocol. This security protocol complies with the IEC 61508 standard and can reach Security Integration Level (SIL) 3, certified by the * Inspection Agency (T ü V). EtherCAT is used as a single channel communication system. The transmission medium is a 'black channel' and is not included in safety considerations. Therefore, this security protocol can also be transmitted through other communication systems, trunk lines, or WLAN. The transmission cycle can be shortened according to customer requirements, without affecting the probability of residual errors. The security data cycle between the Safety over EtherCAT master and slave stations is considered a connection monitored by the watchdog. A master station can establish and monitor multiple connections from different slave stations.
